Cupcakes have been cooled completely. I spread the frosting on the cupcakes and was fine but after leaving them in the room temperature for awhile, the frosting starts to run and become watery. Is this how cream cheese suppose to be?
So when i took out the cupcakes from the fridge i have to eat them almost immediately when the cupcakes are stl hard so how?

that's very strange. Cream cheese don't melt like butter. It stays firm. Maybe something is wrong with it? which brand did you use? the block types or those in jars ?

My recipe for the cream cheese
8 oz package cream cheese
1 stick butter
1tsp vanilla extract
4 cups confectioner's sugar
(I omit the milk becos i dont want the frosting to be too thin)

I use the tube cream cheese from Phoon Huat but i tried Philandelphia the last time round, the result is the same, runny and melts easily.
Could i hve overbeat the creamcheese and butter? sad

For dessert with cream cheese, always served chilled to prevent contamination.

In your case, try cutting down on the butter.
