Halimah,
As far as I know, Buddhist vegetarians do not take eggs and dairy products. MIL does not take these 2 items when she is on vegetarian (1st & 15th of every Chinese calendar month). _________________ Correction may mould but encouragement will motivate |

My MIL can now take eggs but still no dairy. Sometimes I wonder if she really understood all the beliefs and culture of Buddhism as she is illiterate and needed people to explain the scriptures to her. _________________ Gina

Zu
I am very confused about the food and Buddhism bit. Last time she cannot take eggs and dairy. Now she can take eggs but still no dairy. I would assume its either one or none. As eggs, like milk or cheese are by-products of animals.
the logic my MIL told me its no animals and animal by-products. Means no eggs, no milk, or milk related food like cheese, butter, etc. _________________ Gina

Now I am getting more confused
I thought no eggs because it's supposed to have life in it. Eating eggs means that you are 'killing' the life in it by not letting it be born. _________________ Correction may mould but encouragement will motivate |

yeaps... I also thought that was the case.. diary is okie but no eggs cos it has life in it...
I suppose there is no straight forward answer... and really depends on the version that they want to follow...

hi Gina,
While searching for a almond butter cake, saw your post, I think I replace the ground hazelnut with ground almond, cos have leftover almond powder from baking the almond cookies.. and also also extra black sesame seeds..
Thanks for the recipe..
