Pickled onions(recipe n pic)

Ingredients
20 pcs Pearl white onions(small)
50g sea salt
500ml water

fermenting liquid
400ml Red wine vinegar
100g sugar
1 tsp cloves

Method
1. cut off top and bottom of onion and peel off the skin.
2. Wash and drain.
3. boil water with salt till melted. Leave it to cool completely and pour into a jar.
4. Add washed onions in and leave it aside to soak for 48 hours or 2 days.
5. Remove and wash away salt water.
6. Heat up a sauce pot and add the vinegar to heat.
7. Turn heat to low, once it starts to sizzle, turn off the fire.
8. add cloves, sugar and stir till melted.
9. Pour the liquid into a clean jar and add onions.
10. Leave aside for 5 days.

After the 5th day, store the jar of pickled onions in the fridge.

Can be eaten straightaway, cold as an appetizer. or can be eaten(sliced) with Century Egg or use for cooking with Sweet n Sour dishes.

oh..I need to find out too. These pearl white onions are organic. And very expensive. I only use 10 pcs to make. $6.95 for a small bag.

if not, you can use the regular red small shallots.

Oh I see. Have you tried with regular shallots? Will it come out white like what they sell outside?

haven't tried yet. but these pearl white onions are less acidic. When I cut it, at least don't have to wear swimming goggles :lol:
