|
|
Here is a quick and easy way to make delicious Loong Yoke using bacon strips:
Ingredients:
1 kg back bacon
60g garlics
Marinade:
4 tbsp (approx 150g) honey
200g sugar
3 tbsp light soya sauce
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 tbsp fish sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp oyster sauce
250ml water
A bit of char siew color (optional)
Method:
1) Bruise whole garlics and remove skins and set aside.
2) Mix all marinade ingredients together and microwave till sugar is melted
3) Put in the garlics and leave mixture to cool.
4)Place bacon & marinade in an airtight container in the fridge and marinade for at least 2 days before grilling (bacon should be submerged in the marinade)
Note:
1) You may have to adjust the marinade ingredients depending on how salty your bacon is originally.
2) Do not use chopped/minced garlics as these may burn during grilling. _________________ Ginny

Thanks Rusti for posting the recipe.
Do we have to keep it in the fridge while it marinates  |

Rusti,
Thanks for sharing your recipe. I have kept the bulk of it in the freezer - will be using it whenever I make my tomato and bacon savoury bread. The bacon will definitely taste better than the ordinary ones I have been using. Mine looks lean as I used shoulder bacon. |

Makes me wanna marinade another batch.
JC, I think you can grill a little bit more to make it drier so that it becomes a bit sticky. _________________ Ginny

Alannia, I did not bake but grilled it directly under the element.. You have to watch over it as it can get burnt quite easily. Don't put it too high up the rack. _________________ Ginny

i'm happy to say that the bacon was a BIG hit!! everyone loved it. the only regret that i had was that i made too little of it 'cos it was gone within minutes. i only got to eat 1 slice of it and i'm still craving for it even now. think i'll make some for myself later today.... thanks so much Rusti for this winning recipe! |

Hi CookingMonster
Glad you like it. It is really addictive isn't it. I am gonna make a batch for myself soon too. My friend has been chasing me for the longest time after tasting some.
How long did you marinate it by the way? I sometimes marinate for up to a week.
I guess it is easier and less messy to bbq then to grill in the oven as there is quite a bit of splattering of fats. _________________ Ginny

Here's mine. Seasoned it for two days, cannot wait already, have to grill them in my oven to try. The first batch I did turn out all black as charcoal and ended in the rubbish bins as I've placed them too high up in my oven. The later ones are more "controlled".
PS. I find that I can't take very accurate pictures. The color in the picture is more reddish than the actual item. _________________ My baking & knitting journey |

the grill function on my oven does not have a temperature..it just grill and ask for how long(timing). I did mine at 8 mins and it was good enough. _________________ Gina
